Dismay at ‘massacre’ of bushes on riverside
A complaint has been made about ‘massacring’ of the bushes along Riverside Road in Tweedmouth.
Town councillor Karin Graham has complained to Northumberland County Council about it.
“The bushes there have been massacred,” she told the local services committee. “The pruning they do is killing off the Japanese blossom. It makes me want to weep.
“All they have done is savagely take a chainsaw across the top and it’s a shame because those areas are beautiful. We never get the blooms or the smell because next year’s shoots have already been taken off. They’re like sticks. It’s ignorance from the people who are meant to be our gardeners.”
It was agreed to bring it up at the next meeting with local services officers.
Clerk Gareth Davies also suggested a group of volunteers dedicated to that area could come up with a proposal to enhance it.
