The council is disputing the bill from Wireless Logic and further discussions will be held to try to resolve the matter.

“There appears to be a fault with one of the digital display boards so it’s using a lot more data than it should,” explained town clerk Gareth Davies

“We have paid a first bill (£130.19 but a second bill is outstanding for £2,500 which we are refusing to pay.”

The digital boards, purchased by the Berwick Deserves Better community group for £30,000 uising Portas funds, are under a three-year warranty.

“The problem is complicated because they were not procured by the town council,” added Mr Davies.

Meanwhile, Mr Davies also revealed discussions have taken place with Virgin Trains about providing new pedestrian signage between the railway station and town centre.
