Berwick travelled to play East Kilbride on Saturday. They’re a team, like Berwick, fighting to avoid relegation from the National League this season, and it was the home team who took the spoils with an emphatic 46-10 victory.

The home side’s tally was made up of seven tries, one penalty and three conversions.

At half-time, the game didn’t look to be too far out of Berwick’s reach, with the home side leading 13-0 and Berwick having exerted quite a bit of pressure throughout the half.

However, misplaced kicks and poor handling all too often meant Berwick handed the ball back to the East Kilbride side, who took full advantage and punished their visitors.

There were, however, glimpses of the Berwick we saw last year when great pace and movement saw them score probably the best two tries of the game through Michael Binnie and Lee Douglas.

Berwick are now involved in a relegation dogfight, with three teams being relegated this season.

With four home games in a row, starting with the visit of promotion-chasing West of Scotland on Saturday, survival is going to be a battle, and Berwick need to show the attitude and spirit that saw the team promoted last season.

The game kicks off at 3pm.
