Deal over pensions aims to save money

Northumberland County Council is moving forward with plans to work closely on pensions with South Tyneside Council in a bid to save money.

The two authorities are working to establish a shared administration service for the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), which should go live soon.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

It will be based at the South Tyneside Council offices in South Shields and will utilise the services already provided by the Tyne and Wear Pension Fund.

Coun Peter Jackson, leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “By working with South Tyneside Council to provide a joint LGPS administration service we will improve resources and future-proof the service.

“We are convinced that the new arrangements will provide a better, more comprehensive service to the thousands of participants in the pension scheme across Northumberland.”
