The Northumberland Pulse Dance Platform, now in its sixth year, celebrates the work of dance groups across the county and will be on stage at 6pm on Sunday, March 12.

These groups create dances in a range of styles to a wide selection of music, involving beginners, as well as dancers with experience, and cover a wide age range.

The performance opportunity provides a chance to perform on a professional stage, with full lighting, or to share work on film.

And sometimes, the performance is informal and takes place in the foyer as people arrive.

The event always generates dances with a range of themes and touching on up to date story lines, which often involve the participants in creating the choreography.

For those groups who are interested, there is a chance to enter the competition side of the event.

Three judges will be selecting two groups of young people aged between 11 and 19 years, or 24 years for disabled people, to represent Northumberland at a North East youth dance event.

It includes two groups selected from each of the other four youth dance hubs in the region – Newcastle/Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Sunderland/Durham and Tees Valley.

At the regional event, usually held in the theatre at Dance City, three groups are selected to represent the North East at a national event, which in the summer of 2017 will be held at The Lowry, Salford.

Dance groups from across Northumberland, including those at schools in the county, will be taking part in the event.
