The new shelter, which costs over £5,000, is being jointly funded by Coun Georgina Hill, member for Berwick East on Northumberland County Council, through her small schemes allowance and Berwick Town Council.

Coun Hill said: “I had a lot of complaints about the old, dilapidated shelter from residents which provided next to no protection from the elements during bad weather. So, even though the town council took over responsibility for bus shelters I was happy to share the cost for this new one.”

If this bus shelter proves a success, the same model is likely to be installed in other areas in the town if the finances can be met.

Coun Hill added; “I trust that the ‘vandal-proof’ credentials will be shown to be an accurate description rather than act as a test!”
