Councillors welcome two site solution
Berwick's three county councillors have hailed news that the town's new £25million hospital will be built on a separate site to a new £20million leisure centre.
Councillors Georgina Hill, Gregah Roughead and Catherine Seymour have been calling for a two-site solution.
In a joint statement, they said: “We greatly welcome the fact that they have listened to our concerns, and those expressed by Berwick residents, and are going to build the new hospital on a separate site to the new leisure centre.
“This will allow room for future expansion and for our new hospital to be built without further unnecessary delays.

“Now we have secured this major first step, we will continue to make the case to the NHS and fight for much better healthcare services for our residents. Specifically, we have asked them to look again at the number of beds planned, the extra care facilities which could now be provided on the separate site and what additional funding is available for this in addition to the £25million.
“We have also asked for an urgent review of the distances people in Berwick have to travel for a range of healthcare services – much of which would seem entirely unnecessary and for routine and other matters which should be dealt with at our local hospital or GP surgeries.”
