Councillor will continue bid for better A1 signage
The latest attempt to get improved signage for Berwick from the A1 appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
Berwick Town Council and Councillor Jim Smith, member for Berwick East on Northumberland County Council, had asked Highways England to examine the matter.
However, they have been notified that no action will be taken.
Cllr Smith said: “We’re still no further forward but it’s a battle we need to carry on.”

He had called for ‘town centre’ signs at the four main junctions into Berwick – Scremerston, Etal Road, Ord and Morrisons.
“My idea was to get more people coming off the A1 in the first place and we could then sign our other attractions,” he said.
Berwick Chamber of Trade has made similar calls without success.
