Councillor resigns from finance role after precept row
Berwick town councillor Catherine Seymour has resigned as chairman of its finance committee.
It is understood she tendered her resignation after last week’s budget discussion in which she felt proper procedures had not been followed.
Councillor Seymour, who did not attend the follow-up meeting on Monday at which the budget was approved with a £33,000 rise in the precept, had called for it to be frozen.
“From the information we have been given it seems we have plenty of money,” she said.
She felt income from the freemen should have been taken into consideration in the budget setting.
