Coun Catherine Seymour, member for Berwick North on Northumberland County Council, said: “Abandoned cars caused issues with ploughing on some roads and it was good to hear that sub-contractors and farmers supported the county council who continued to work around the clock, throughout this weather.

“Berwick county councillors went to the Swan Centre to see what was being provided and needed for travellers whose journeys were being halted.

“I was pleased to hear about all the care and hard work being done by county council staff when they provided 150 visitors with food and shelter overnight on Thursday. As well, other hospitality and businesses were offering respite and refeshments. Supermarkets and local businesses also pulled together providing food and supplies.”

She added: “It was touching to see many residents pulling together in good cheer, helping each other with cars stuck in ice and snow and the parish church vicar giving a helping hand out with others snow shovelling on the Parade.”
