The four-bay facility on Chapel Street opened in April but has only been used sporadically so far.

Coun Catherine Seymour, recently-elected member for Berwick North on Northumberland County Council, said, “I have asked for this because I believe that the coach park is not working effectively, and believe it was put in the wrong place, inside the historic walled town of Berwick, instead of outside.

“There are no proper convenient facilities for passengers and there have been difficulties for drivers getting their coaches in and out of the parking spaces, especially with some of the European coaches.

“Passengers have been dropped off in situ rather than at the Parade first before coaches are parked. Other councillors and I have received numerous complaints from local residents and business owners for some time now with issues and there has been some confusion from coach drivers regarding proper procedures.”

She added: “I have given this matter due consideration and am determined to find the best solution for all parties concerned.

“Now that the county council have a Conservative administration in place, I am confident that we can work together to come up with a proper plan to satisfy the coach companies, tourists, business owners and residents of Berwick.”
