Council objects to Morrisons signage
Berwick Town Council has made an objection to an application by Morrisons for advertisement consent for two totem signage poles at its North Road store.
The signs would be placed on the A1 near the McDonald’s sign and by the Newfields roundabout.
There was a feeling among members of the planning committee that there was too much information on one of the signs and could therefore be a distraction to road users.
The signs contain information on fuel price and advertise the different departments within the store.
Town councillors also called for a condition that the signs are only illuminated during hours of business to prevent light pollution.
Highways England has made no objection.
The supermarket has recently undergone refurbishment and was officially reopened last Thursday (see Page 13).
