Council must stick to code
At a recent meeting I politely asked all members of Berwick Town Council to remind themselves of the Nolan principles and the council's code of conduct.
These include openness, honesty, integrity, leading by personal example and respect for others.
This should be essential conduct of anyone in public office.
The meeting degenerated into councillors shouting loudly not only at each other, but in one case directly at several members of the public.
Differences of policy and priorities will occur, but such loud, angry and disrespectful conduct toward members of the public and fellow councillors must stop.
The function of the chairman is to control the meeting effectively whilst respecting the contribution of others.
Video has been made public such that councillors may reflect on their own behaviour.
