Council keen to help cyclists

Berwick Town Council is keen to start discussions with cycling groups to try and overcome problems south of Spittal.

“Berwick is already served by a number of cycle routes (National Route 1 and National Route 78, for instance) but National Route 1 south of Berwick is not easy to navigate and lacks maintenance,” said clerk Gareth Davies.

Members of the local services committee agreed to consider working with cycling groups and others to identify an alternative route that is easier to use, and in the process opening Berwick up to cyclists from the south of the county.

Difficulties with crossing the A1 were also raised, as well as getting from Spittal to Tweedmouth and Prior Park Estate without crossing main roads.
