Berwick Investors Conference, Building the Bridge, has been pencilled in for March 16, 2017.

It will focus on sustainable build and low carbon construction, food innovation and sustainable agriculture and tourism.

Cllr Eric Goodyer, of Berwick Town Council, said: “The success of the last event was extraordinary and I honestly think we’ll be hard pressed to do it again.

“The impact of an event such as a business conference is difficult to gauge because it takes time to develop ideas but it created a really positive environment and I’m aware of deals having been done.

“What was really fantastic was the input we had from Scotland, both at the investors conference and the small business confertence we held earlier in the autumn. We need to build on that and help and assist each other to grow.

“The next conference will focus on our commerical strengths. We are an important place for agriculture and tourism but we are a manufacturing town, even with the loss of Jus-Rol.

“We have a very strong sustainable build and low-carbon construction sector and we need training and skills to take this further.”

The conference will present current funding opportunities such as UK grants, regional support, EU funds and support to develop export markets.

Berwick Town Council has agreed to provide up to £2,000 towards the event, while £1,000 has been secured from the European Regional Development Fund after an application submitted by the North East Chamber of Commerce.

But Cllr Goodyer said he hoped the conference will result in sufficient sponsorship to allow it to be wholly self-financing.
