Concern over plan to tackle pigeon problems
Action is being planned to try to solve pigeon problems at Berwick's Grade I listed town hall.
Berwick Corporation (Freemen) Trustees has submitted a planning application requesting listed building consent to put netting on fivewindows and polycarbonate spikes on six window openings.
A report with the application states: ‘There has been a significant problem around the northern and eastern elevations with pigeons nesting in the top floor windows.
‘This is causing damage to the masonry of the building and creating a public health hazard below.’
Berwick Town Council raised concerns about the birds getting stuck in netting.
Coun Tom Forrester said: “It’s an issue that’s been in the national news.”
