Column was entertaining
I was sorry to read that Halidon has decided to '˜retire'.
I shall miss, in my view, the down-to-earth, witty, tongue-in-cheek comments and views in the weekly Landlines column, which I always found to be very entertaining, whilst still getting the point across.
The closest I ever came to being a farmer was in the 1950s during the autumn half-term, locally known as ‘tattie week’, when quite a few Bell Tower School pupils picked potatoes on the farms around Berwick.
I found Halidon’s Landlines promulgations, therefore, quite educating. In particular, the comparisons of today’s farming with that of almost 60 years ago, when we picked the ‘tatties’.
