Berwick started the game brightly and dominated the midfield from the start with a one touch passing game that Kelso struggled to deal with.

For all Berwick’s first half superiority, chances were few and far between and with half an hour played neither keeper had been forced into making a real save.

With four minutes until half time Kelso took a surprise lead when a huge throw in from near the halfway line caught Berwick out and a Kelso player sprinted down the wing before cutting inside and cooly tuckedthe ball low past Benzies from an acute angle.

Berwick’s best chance of the game came with six second half minutes played when Combes’ inch perfect in-swinging cross was firmly headed goalward by Craig Heath, but the Kelso stopper pulled off a fine reaction save to tip the ball over the bar for a corner.

A minute later and Berwick should have done better when the lively Windram whipped in a dangerous ball that Kantas met but his header just cleared the crossbar.

Kelso did turn in a far better second half performance and Berwick’s defence weren’t really tested but with Colts pushing forward for an equaliser the hosts capitalised on a moment of hesitancy between Meakin and Benzies to tap home a soft second goal with ten minutes remaining.
