A young Colts side, facing Waddell Cup opponents from a tier above, were always going to find this tough, but in the end they ran Kelso close and put on an impressive display.

Windram had an early chance, but Kelso were guilty of squandering some great opportunities, although Kelso took the lead when a free kick wasn’t gathered by Alvie and their powerful left back, Ngoa, reacted first to head home the loose ball.

Berwick were unlucky when Turnbull produced a fine save to deny Briggs,

With ten minutes of the half remaining Kelso doubled their lead when a clever flick bypassed Brown before Hutchison smashed in a fierce low drive from 20 yards out.

Berwick finished the half strongly and after Briggs was again denied by Turnbull, Craig Heath pulled a goal back just two minutes before the break.

However, Kelso added a third goal within three minutes of the restart through Sanderson.

Berwick again responded and scored the goal of the game through Briggs.

With just the one goal separating the teams Kelso were never totally comfortable but the tie was effectively all over with seven minutes remaining when the home side crossed from the left wing and Hutchison somehow found the net with a header.
