Club hopes to upgrade facilities at Five Arches
Proposals to improve the football facilities at Five Arches in Tweedmouth have been warmly welcomed by Berwick Town Council.
Tweedmouth Community Football club, formerly Tweedmouth Amateur Football Club, wants to redevelop the pitches it currently leases from Northumberland County Council.
The club is proposing a three phase development.
The first phase would see the installation of four 15metre-tall floodlights around the existing pitch. A rail and perimeter fence would also be installed around the pitch.
This is in order to meet league entry requirements but would also protect the pitch from damage, for example through vehicle tyre marks, and prevent dog fouling.
The second phase would see the installation of an all-weather pitch with dark night lighting, along with the refurbishment of the adjacent play park.
Phase three would see a new fit-for-purpose clubhouse built.
It is understood Northumberland County Council is supportive of these plans and Tweedmouth Community FC asked for a statement of support from Berwick Town Council.
Cllr Georgina Hill said: “Chairman Les Fletcher has ambitious plans for the football club and the site at Five Arches. Northumberland County Council has agreed to extend the lease so they can get funding. I think it is an excellent opportunity to develop the facilities there.”
Cllr Karin Graham also welcomed the plans.
