£800 has been raised for Grove Special School after staff from the MKM Building Supplies branch in Berwick climbed Ben Nevis.

The fearless five of Liam Simpson, Ross Scott, Kevin Baxter, Gordon Laurence and Ilona Bendziute – accompanied by Wilfred the dog – braved freezing temperatures to reach the 1,345m summit.

Brian Morton, branch director at MKM Berwick, said: “I’m unbelievably proud of what the team achieved. The Grove is an incredible and worthy recipient.”

He added: “We’d like to extend a massive thanks to Gary Crone who drove the team, Cooks Car and Van Hire for the transport, and of course to all of the fantastic sponsors. This wouldn’t have been possible without their generous donations and support!”

The Tweedmouth-based school provides placements for students who have complex learning needs covering a broad spectrum of difficulties; primarily placements are for pupils with a severe, global, cognitive disability.
