Classroom plan is recommended for approval

A proposal to build a stand-alone classroom block with welfare facilities at Hipsburn First School has been recommended for approval by planning officers.

The expansion would result in an additional 20 school places being made available, in addition to the current school roll of 62.

The plan has raised objections from three neighbours, with issues to do with parking, concerns about access and natural light into the classroom and insufficient detail about whether the proposal is the best option to satisfy the future needs of pupils at the school.

One representation has also been received from the school’s chairman of governors with concerns surrounding accessibility and safety, among other things.

The scheme will go before the county council’s planning and performance committee on Tuesday.
