Charity will be the winner
A charity football match is set to raise funds for HospiceCare North Northumberland and Berwick Cancer Cars.
The game will be played on June 1, at Spittal Rovers’ Newfields pitch followed by a celebratory band night at the Black & Gold in the evening.
The charities are each putting together an over 35s team and the match looks set to be hard fought if the pre-match rhetoric is anything to go by!
David Hainsworth, who will manage the Berwick Cancer Cars team, said: “Obviously, it’s for two great causes and we want it to be a fun day for players and spectators and families. Even so, I’ve been given strict instructions to make sure we win on the day!”
Nick McCreath, HospiceCare manager, added: “Of course, we’re already looking at a tailor-made back-lit display unit for the trophy! We’ll be keeping our team and tactics under wraps.”
HospiceCare community fund-raiser Jackie Kaines Lang said: “It’s a great way for both charities to work together to raise awareness and funds. It’s brilliant that so many individuals, organisations and groups are uniting.”
Andrew Smith, Cancer Cars chairman, said: “The charities support local people in times of great need and are fortunate in the amount of local support they attract. It’s wonderful to have a joint project that celebrates that.”
The match kicks off at 3pm with entry by donation.
Dark House will be performing at the post-match party. Tickets £10 include burgers and are available from McCreath & Sons, HospiceCare Wear & Care Shop and KreativeTechnology.
