Cattle back on Island
Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve has 30 cattle grazing the dunes over the autumn and winter.
The cattle open up the sward and help to manage non-native species such as piri-piri through trampling and grazing. They will be on the reserve until Christmas.
Last week, the reserve staff and volunteers worked hard cutting and clearing the dune slacks to support the new life such as dune orchids that will appear next spring.
