From April 1, dogs will be able to explore the nine-acre site, while a special dog-friendly area within the castle’s Victorian Stables will be available.

Castle owner Francis Watson Armstrong said: “We’re sure our decision to let dogs – and well-behaved owners – will get their tails wagging as they enjoy beautiful Bamburgh Castle.”

“We’re real dog lovers here at Bamburgh. My family have always owned dogs across the generations, including the First Lord Armstrong who purchased Bamburgh Castle 125 years ago and owned Dandy Dinmonts.

Dogs will not be permitted in the castle’s state rooms or Clock Tower Tea Room (except for assistance dogs).
