Castle Hills housing plan approved
Outline plans for eight new building plots near Castlehills Farm in Berwick have been approved.
The application, made on behalf of Donald and Sarah Macpherson, would see homes built to the north west of the access road, off Castle Terrace.
Three-bedroom homes are envisaged on six of the plots, with the other two slightly larger.
The highways department raised no objection after being told the access road will be widened to 4.8metres to allow cars to pass, and that the access to the public highway will be improved.
Planning officer Jon Sharp said: ‘The proposed dwellings would be located on the northern edge of Berwick and as such is considered to be well related to the town both geographically and visually, being only 1km from the railway station and the services provided therein. It is therefore considered to be in a sustainable location.
‘The principal of new residential development has been accepted with the recent granting of permission for two dwellings on land immediately adjacent to the subject site and this proposal seeks to infill the line of existing development without encroaching further into the open countryside.’
