“We wanted to give people the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those they have lost, and to celebrate the amazing researchers who have doubled survival from cancer in the past 40 years, as well as to raise funds for research in the future in the North East. “

Local Manager for Cancer Research UK Carolyn Reynolds said: “16,800 people in the North East will hear the words “I’m sorry, it’s cancer’ this year, and one in two of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime, so it’s really important that we continue to recognise and fund our vital research.

“Berwick has been a generous supporter of research into cancer for more than 60 years, and we’d love to see your candles of hope on Thursday at 5.30pm.”
