Candlelit lantern walk around Berwick's walls
A candlelit lantern walk round Berwick walls is being held on Thursday, November 1 to remember those lost to cancer, to honour those who are still fighting, and to give thanks for the lives saved by research.
Candle Bags for decoration with the names of loved ones are available for a donation of £3.
The event starts at 5.30 pm near the Parade Car Park, when candles will be provided to light up the lanterns.
Then a walk round the walls and a return to the Parade where the lanterns will be displayed and refreshments will be available.
Coun Karin Graham is organising the event on behalf of the Berwick Committee for Cancer Research UK.
“We wanted to give people the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those they have lost, and to celebrate the amazing researchers who have doubled survival from cancer in the past 40 years, as well as to raise funds for research in the future in the North East. “
Local Manager for Cancer Research UK Carolyn Reynolds said: “16,800 people in the North East will hear the words “I’m sorry, it’s cancer’ this year, and one in two of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime, so it’s really important that we continue to recognise and fund our vital research.
“Berwick has been a generous supporter of research into cancer for more than 60 years, and we’d love to see your candles of hope on Thursday at 5.30pm.”
Get your candle bag for a £3 donation from Karin Graham’s Facebook page or email Karin atKarinaway88@hotmail.com.
A limited supply of lanterns will be available on the night.
