Call made for young firefighters to sign up
Northumberland Young Firefighters Association (YFA) is recruiting new cadets across the county.
Ran by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, the YFA is calling for young people aged 13 to 17 to join their local teams for a chance to try something new.
The YFA offers young people an insight into the Fire and Rescue Service and gives cadets the opportunity to practice key skills such as hose running, pump operation and ladders drills.
They can also get involved in projects to support their local communities and go head to head with other station cadets in drill competitions.
Bethany Cross, project officer for the Young Firefighters Association said: “The Young Firefighters Association is a great way to get involved in the Fire and Rescue Service.
“Cadets who take part in the sessions have a chance to get involved in some fantastic activities which could help them to develop skills, grow in confidence and start a career.
“Above all, the Young Firefighters Association is lots of fun and a great way to meet new people.”
Groups get together once a week during term time at seven stations across Northumberland. Sessions cost just £2 per session which includes uniform and protective equipment.
Fire Stations; Wooler and Pegswood run sessions on Monday nights, Berwick on a Tuesday, Cramlington and Hexham on a Wednesday night and Alnwick and Rothbury on a Thursday night, between 6pm - 8pm.
Spaces are limited to 14 cadets per station which are allocated on a first come first serve basis.
