BREAKING: Bandit Mellgren out for a month
Berwick Bandits have reported that popular Swede, Anders Mellgren has been declared unfit to race for up to a month.
Mellgren has been battling a knee injury, sustained in a fall at a training track in Cumbria the day before his team’s opening match of the season at Redcar.
He has attempted to ride through a barrier of considerable pain since then, but a further knock this week has made the difficulty of trying to race impossible.
He has returned to Sweden for medical treatment and assessment of the ligament damage..
The club has received a medical report and certificate from the clinic in Sweden, which has been lodged, duly translated, with the BSPA office at Rugby.
While the Bandits await further medical reports, the Olympic Marquees Bandits will operate the rider-replacement facility in both League Cup matches this weekend. Anders’ four programmed races may be taken by Theo Pijper (once) Matty Wethers and Liam Carr.
