Mellgren has been battling a knee injury, sustained in a fall at a training track in Cumbria the day before his team’s opening match of the season at Redcar.

He has attempted to ride through a barrier of considerable pain since then, but a further knock this week has made the difficulty of trying to race impossible.

He has returned to Sweden for medical treatment and assessment of the ligament damage..

The club has received a medical report and certificate from the clinic in Sweden, which has been lodged, duly translated, with the BSPA office at Rugby.
