Boots plans to demolish unstable rear wall
Boots plans to construct a new boundary fence at the rear of its Berwick store.
It is proposing to build a new 2.4metre grey steel palisade fence in place of the existing 2.6metre brick wall.
A planning statement prepared on the company’s behalf states: ‘It is proposed to demolish the current brick boundary wall.
‘It was constructed without expansion joints, thus meaning that, over time, cracks have appeared making the wall both unsightly and unstable.’
The site is within the Berwick conservation area so is subject to conservation planning guidelines.
The rear yard/car park is used for deliveries, waste collection and staff parking.
The rear of the store leads on to a residential road.
External areas will require no alterations to the existing Tarmac car park which will still provide five spaces.
A final decision will be taken by Northumberland County Council.
