A new post-apocalyptic-themed book and exhibition titled Animal Spirits, by Juneau Projects, will be on display at the Gymnasium Gallery in Berwick on Saturday.

The project features illustrations created by residents of Berwick and Coniston in the Lake District.

The book, written and designed by the artists, tells the story of a group of survivors who, following a global technological disaster, have founded an arts and craft community within Berwick’s town walls.

To bring the story to life, Juneau Projects worked with pupils at Tweedmouth Community Middle School and residents of Coniston iand Berwick to create hand-painted images of scenes from the narrative.

A selection of images feature in the book, with more on display at the gallery in custom-made frames. Animal Spirits is billed as an ambitious project looking at the importance of creativity and the manner in which artists and craftspeople’s roles and positions shift in tandem with technological development.

The project will be discussed at a launch event on Saturday at 12.30pm, followed by a preview of the exhibition at 2pm.

The work will be on display at the gallery until Sunday, May 8.
