Better ways to spend money
In the Berwick Advertiser on March 26, 2015, it was announced that the long-term aim was 'to use The Maltings and Cowes buildings as the council's customer facing access'.
Now, on February 11, 2016, it states that the “Maltings proposal is to be abandoned”.
Will Northumberland County Council stop making bad decisions about our town, which are then proved to be uneconomic and a waste of time and money?
In the meeting in the Town Hall on June 10, 2015, the people of Berwick-upon-Tweed made it very clear to Paul Leo, head of strategic assets, that the suggested plans were ill thought-out and were inappropriate.
But Northumberland County Council still went ahead with its ideas and even called in external consultants, who now tell it that “the building work and associated costs would be too expensive”.
I wonder how much these external consultants were paid when the town council and people of Berwick-on-Tweed told the county council this for nothing?

The money for this futile consultation would have been better spent on paying the rent for the current site of the tourist information centre in Marygate.
