The records it holds include Berwick’s borough records dating from the 16th century, business, court and estate records, non-conformist church records and records of former district councils. In addition, the office also holds a variety of sources useful for people tracing their family history in north Northumberland and elsewhere, including some Scottish sources.

The Record Office will be open from 9.30am-1pm and 2pm-5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and visitors wishing to consult original records are advised to book at least 24 hours in advance and call ahead to discuss their requirements. Advance book is not required for family historians but they are still advised to check in advance that the records will be available to them.
