Mrs Hope, who has been at the helm since 2011, is leaving to be closer to her family. The vacancy is now being advertised.

Chairman of governors, Clare Shaw, said: “During her time at Berwick Middle, with the backing of a strong senior leadership team and a dedicated team of staff she has turned Berwick Middle into a ‘Good’ school by the Ofsted framework.

“During the summer term the Governors embarked on a recruitment drive that proved to be very successful and we have appointed some great staff, most whom have already began making a difference within our school.

“Over the next few weeks, the Governing Body will be working with the local authority to recruit an outstanding new headteacher to continue Mrs Hope’s influential work.”
