Taking a practical driving test is one of the most nerve-wracking things a learner driver could experience but the Berwick test centre saw the highest pass rate in the region last year.

In total, 64.3% of learner drivers who took their test in Berwick walked away with a pass in 2017/18.

According to new data, a total of 53% learner drivers passed their driving test in the North East in between April 2017 and March 2018.

Other successful locations included Alnwick (63.5%) and Hexham (60.6%).

On the other hand, learner drivers may want to think twice about booking at Gateshead, as this had the lowest pass rate (41.8%) in the North East.

A new interactive calendar created by Confused.com also reveals that learner drivers have the best chance of passing in August.

Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com, says: “Taking a driving test, be it for the first or fifth time, is always a daunting experience for learner drivers. So we have tried to take the pressure off a little bit by creating an interactive calendar which helps learners in the North East to identify the best date, month and time to book their driving test.

“There is a myth that examiners only pass a certain number of students on one day, but this calendar proves that this isn’t the case. And there are clearly other factors that learners need to consider when it comes to booking their test.”
