She has been acting head in recent months.

Chairman of trustees, Donna Goddard, said: "As you may be aware, Berwick Academy has been without a permanent head teacher for over a year.

"The trustees wanted the Academy to reach a steadier state before appointing a replacement; in the interim the duties of Acting Headteacher have been carried out capably by both Steve Wilkes and Tracy Hush.

"At the end of the autumn term, the Trustees agreed to start the recruitment process to appoint a permanent head teacher. After a rigorous selection process including representatives from the local authority and the Regional Schools Commission we are pleased to announce that Tracy Hush has been successful and has accepted the position.

"All of the trustees would like to thank the staff, parents and pupils for their support over the past year and we look forward to Mrs Hush leading Berwick Academy to become the community focal point that Berwick deserves."
