Bernicia funding secures Berwick football coaching
Bernicia has committed a further £10,000 to cement the future of the Newcastle United Foundation's Premier League Kicks project in Berwick for another year.
This matches last year’s funding from Bernicia for the highly successful community project reaching out to scores of youngsters.
The money will go towards equipment, cost of venue hire and staff costs, allowing the Newcastle United Foundation to provide free football for young children in the area and community projects.
Nearly 120 children are currently signed up in Berwick, with 40 young players attending each week.
Rachel Bickerdike, business development manager at Newcastle United Foundation, said: “We are very grateful for the generosity of Bernicia as they continue to support the PL Kicks programme for another year. The funding they provide will be vital in allowing us to continue our work in the Berwick community.”

Jeannie McMillan, Bernicia director of housing services, said: “The Berwick Kicks project is hugely successful in bringing the local community together through the passion people have for Newcastle United.
“The aim of the project to improve young people’s lives through the power of sport, reflects the objective we have at Bernicia. We look forward to seeing the Berwick project with the Newcastle United Foundation continue to go from strength to strength.”
PL Kicks aims to use the power of sport to improve the lives of young children in hard to reach areas; allowing them to develop their social skills through football.
The initiative allows the foundation to deliver free football sessions at 12 different venues across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland.
