Audela aiming to offer that special something

For some years many folk in Berwick have enjoyed their breakfast, lunch and dinner as prepared and served by Sarah Watson and Craig Pearson in Audela on Bridge Street.

On moving premises to the former Cowes cockle shop, Sarah and Craig have decided to offer something different.

“For such a small town, Berwick is blessed with many really good places for all-day eating,” said Sarah. “Competition was very fierce doing what we were, and hours relentless. You only have to look on Trip Advisor to see how well reviewed, and well loved, other outlets are. But we thought a wider choice was needed, an alternative type of restaurant.”

Encouraged by the reviews of his cooking in the 2018 Good Food Guide, and influenced by visits to top city restaurants, Craig has refreshed and reduced his menu, providing only full lunches and dinner.

Craig explains: “There are many restaurants where you can eat good food, well cooked, to satisfy a healthy appetite and there is a time and a place for that. But you had to travel some distance if you wanted something different. Now patrons have that choice in Berwick.

“We aim to provide a dining experience that satisfies all the senses – food full of taste and texture, a blend of the unusual to give an alternative dining experience, complemented with good wines.

“The phrase fine dining gets bandied around but that sound pretentious and can deter some folk. Trust me, Audela is just as relaxed as it always was, although we hope you’ll think the surroundings are so much nicer. I just want our restaurant to be the place to go for that special something. There is still a roast available on Sundays, but the rest of the menu is of the ‘less is more’ style. We realise the new menu may not appeal to everybody, but come and try it.”

With the new hours and limited menu, Craig and Sarah now have precious family time and can still indulge their favourite pastime – eating!
