Auctioneers coming to the Castle Hotel
Auctioneers are inviting people to come along to The Castle Hotel in Berwick with any scientific instruments and maritime memorabilia for a free auction valuation day.
It is also an opportunity to find out more about them and possibly include them in an international sale catalogue.
In Antiques Roadshow-tradition, individuals can come along with items of interest and discuss their significance – historic or commercial – with London-based maritime and scientific specialist Charles Miller.
Recent valuation days in other parts of the UK have recently unearthed items including a pocket globe that sold for £7,688, a U-boat bell (£13,640) and a Napoleonic Prisoner of War model which went for £8,680.
Charles says: “The categories are represented across all fields of art and culture and fine art is as welcome as ship models and navigational or scientific instruments, or artefacts connected in some way to the subject or interesting people.”
Other examples of objects to bring in include, globes, sundials and compasses, as well as items of historical significance relating to battles, ships and interesting personnel.
The valuation day takes place at the Castle Hotel on Saturday, January 20, from 10am to 4pm.
