Serendipity was set up in 2013, one of the few successes of the ill-fated Portas project.

Seven of the original artisans are still on board, including a woodturner, ceramicist, knitters, bookbinder, artists and jewellers, while guest artisans ensure there are always new products to discover.

There is also an increased range of cards on sale, both pinted and handmade.

“Over the past four years, we’ve had excellent support from local people,” said Julie Dunthorne. “We’re hoping people will choose to do at least some of their Christmas shopping in Berwick and support the various small independent shops, such as Serendipity.”
