Alarmed by lack of nature

I walked the beach towards Spittal twice in three days as a visitor to the area and I am alarmed at the fact that there is no sign of any worm caste, shell deposit, winkle, barnacle, razor fish or indeed anything that you find on most other beaches.

I read a report this morning of likely poor water quality, though I doubt that this would have such an effect upon nature.

Are you aware of any problem in this area, or is it just a fact that crustaceans do not live here?

I have photographs showing an outfall at the end of Spittal promenade. It is not at all attractive and I wonder if this is common knowledge and may be part of the lack of onshore marine life.
