The Berwick Partnership has voiced its backing for Steve Wilkes, who stepped into the lead role at Berwick Academy when Alexis Widdowson resigned in February.

Since then, the school has been placed in special measures after being assessed as inadequate by Ofsted.

Grove School head teacher Penny Derries, in a letter sent on behalf of the partnership, said: ‘All the headteachers of all the schools in the Berwick catchment area meet regularly, this group is called The Berwick Partnership.

‘We would like to let all parents of our partnership know that we are in full support of and committed to Steve Wilkes and his team at Berwick Academy and will do all that we can to help them move forward. We passionately believe that as a partnership, which includes Berwick Academy, we can assure outcomes for all pupils will be the best they possibly can be.
