At our monthly meeting on Friday, September 22, I was asked to clarify and include all the awards given to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The town achieved a Silver Gilt award for the fourth year running.

Special awards are given to identified locations in various categories. These are also rated against similar entries in the whole of the Northumbria in Bloom region.

Berwick Bowling Club achieved a Gold award and was also rated the best sports venue in Northumbria.

The Railway Station complex was also awarded a Gold and came second in the Northumbria region.

Castle Vale Park, The Lion Allotments and Ord House Country Park were all considered to be worthy of a Gold award, while Spittal Village and Maguire’s Bar were granted a Silver Gilt award.

In addition to these excellent achievements, Tweedmouth West First School was given a Gold award for taking part in the Royal Horticultural Society Growing Together award.

On November 1, representatives of the Berwick in Bloom Group will, once again, be travelling to Gateshead to see what category various places have been awarded in the It’s Your Neighbourhood venture.

These are awards where community groups have come together to improve their immediate environment for the benefit of themselves and for the town.

If you are interested in participating in any way to improve the display of plants that enhance the appearance of our town, please contact 01289 308005 in the first instance and you will be directed to the area of Spittal, Tweedmouth or Berwick North of the river as required.
