Small, achievable steps for getting through the day if you're feeling overwhelmed
Sometimes, the weight of our worries and anxieties can begin to overwhelm us, and make coping with the everyday feel insurmountable.
When we feel like this, simple tasks such as going to the shop or answering a phone call can feel almost impossible. You may feel inclined to stay in bed and do nothing.
When you feel this way, however, it's important to try and do a few simple things to make yourself feel better in the short-term.
First of all, when you are feeling overwhelmed, try not to focus on the future or anything beyond your immediate present. It's important to just focus on trying to get through the next few hours or day. Don't worry about anything beyond this.

These are some simple steps you can take to make yourself feel better when you're overwhelmed:
If you are sitting down, stand up and stretch or move your body in any way that feels comfortable. If you are lying down and don't feel able to get up, try to simply sit up - or try stretching in bed.If you haven't already, open your curtains or blinds and open the window to let some fresh air in.If you don't feel able to shower or bathe, try changing your clothes instead - it doesn't matter what you wear - simply having fresh clothes on will make you feel better.Brushing your teeth or splashing your face with water can also help you feel better.Try to eat and drink - a glass of water and something as simple as a slice of bread can improve your mood vastly if you don't feel able to cook.If you have any physical aches or pains, address these by taking a painkiller.If you have medication to take, take it, or set an alarm to take it later on.Tidying your space can help ease your mind. If you don't have the capacity for anything extensive, try setting a five minute timer for tidying, or set a number of things to tidy away - such as plates or clothes.Try to get in touch with someone you love - talking will always help. If you don't feel up for a call, try texting your friends.Try to arrange something in the near future to look forward to. This can be as simple as a call with a friend or a walk to get a coffee.
