Northumberland woman receives Covid vaccine on her 94th birthday

A Northumberland woman had good reason to celebrate her 94th birthday when she also received a Covid vaccine.

Norah McLarty was among the first patients to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the Berwick hub on Tuesday.

“It all went very well and it was very well organised,” said Norah, who also lives in Berwick.

"I feel much safer now and am looking forward to getting my next jab in 21 days.

"It was a nice way to celebrate my 94th birthday – it gives me fresh hope that I can stay in good health for another six years so I can get a telegram from the Queen.”

Well Close Surgery has been administering 975 doses of the vaccine over two days to patients over 80 from five GP practices – Well Close, Union Brae & Norham, Cheviot, Glendale and Belford.

Well Up North, a collaboration of 12 GP practices, worked alongside NHS Northumberland Clinicial Commission Group on the creation of three local hubs.
