Strong links with sector
Berwick Academy is working hard to bridge the gap between education and the world of work.
Northumberland County Council is the first local authority in the North East to participate in the Enterprise Adviser Network - a scheme supported by the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.
The initiative brings together North East business leaders and school senior leadership teams to provide a framework for good careers guidance and to embed a more fit-for-purpose careers programme for pupils.
Berwick Academy head of sixth form Sarah Flanagan said: "Berwick Academy is delighted to be working with our colleagues at Northumberland County Council as we seek to strengthen and enhance our links with employers for the benefit of our students.
“The wide range of career pathways available at the county council makes it an employer of choice for many of our students.
“We are committed to growing the number of our students moving onto high-quality apprenticeships and we really value the support of an organisation that shares our aims.”
Coun Wayne Daley, cabinet member for children's services at the county council, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Berwick Academy to widen its careers engagement opportunities by working closely with local businesses in the surrounding area.
“This will build on the tremendous work already being carried out by the academy to expand prospects of pupils.”
