School's plastic free status delight
There were plenty of smiles at Scremerston First School when it received a Plastic Free award from the Sea the Change organisation.
This recognises the work that has been put in to eradicate single use plastic within the school.
Pupils found out about plastic pollution in the sea, so they visited the beach to see the problem for themselves. They wrote about their observations, took part in a litter pick and wrote to the manufacturers of Easter eggs asking why there was so much plastic in the packaging.
Scremerston now gets its school milk delivered in glass bottles instead of cartons, so no need for plastic straws, and the school kitchen no longer uses cling film.
