Headteacher praises hard work and dedication of Amble GCSE students during 'unusual year'

Lily Tibbitts achieved an amazing eight grade 9’s, while Sadie Bryson managed a collection of grades 7-9.
Neil Rodgers, executive head at James Calvert Spence College, said: “At the end of the most unusual school year ever, it was most refreshing and uplifting to celebrate the wonderful GCSE results of our Year 11 students in person.

Hide Ad"We were determined that they should be able to enjoy a relatively normal results day. And with some careful planning, sensible hygiene routines and some dedicated outside areas, we were able to let students and parents do just that!
“We had some outstanding individual performances this year, such as those of Lily Tibbitts and Sadie Bryson.
“This week has been a lot less frustrating than last week, following the announcement that the A-level grades were to be reinstated to the centre assessed grades (CAGs), and rightly so.
"The use of CAGs to also determine GCSE grades has ensured that both our Year 11 and Year 13 students have received outcomes determined by the professionals who know them best as people, rather than an algorithm that knows them simply as a set of numbers.

"I am already looking forward to welcoming many of them back into our sixth form and wish those who have chosen a different path all the very best for the future.”
