‘I’ve found the perfect spot for my shop’

Granny's Keepsakes and Accessories is run by Kathleen Given, whose passion is art and design.

Having displayed her work elsewhere, she wanted to expand and showcase her designs while also having a dedicated space to work.

Kathleen, a grandmother to six, said: “I looked at premises in town, but found the perfect spot on the Ramparts Business Park.

“With free parking and a huge, bright airy space doubling up as a workspace, it seemed a bit of a no brainer for me to start my new venture here.”

The shop, which opened last month, offers a selection of hand-made and hand-decorated home decor and gifts in addition to accessories such as handbags, jewellery and gifts.

She started glass art by making items for her hen weekend so that everyone had their own wine glass with name on – this was in 2012 and Granny's Keepsakes and Accessories was then formally developed as people kept asking her to make things for them.

Kathleen added: “We are always encouraging new talent and have two new people on board – James Gaffney of JAG ART 82 and Lynne O'Reilly of Country Creations by Mrs O, who started her business earlier this year and was seeking venues to display her work.

“We are excited to be expanding and bringing a new gift shop to Berwick, with many unique and quite different items you won't find elsewhere.

“Most of our models have great colours and some also have artistic inscriptions.”

Other local designers displaying their work at the shop include Seanair Cards, Anne Johnston Gill Fine Art, Poppy Designs and Knitting by Katie Doo.
