Centre for body, mind and spirit
A new health and well-being centre in Berwick has opened its doors.
Bab’yama Wellness Hub is the initiative of Trudy Morrison and Isabelle Roney, who believe that better long-term health can be achieved when body, mind and spirit are considered together as a whole.
It currently offers a schedule of yoga classes, including one for children aged five to 10, qigong (similar to tai chi), meditation and mindfulness at the newly refurbished Castlegate studio.
In addition, counselling and therapy sessions from the adjoining treatment room is overseen by consultant counselling psychologist Isabelle, who has more than 20 years of experience working in the NHS.
Yoga teacher Trudy said: “There isn’t a one-size fits all solution to people’s health.
“We want to bring as many options as possible together so that people can choose their preferred way of staying well.
“We hope to build on what we offer over time and would love to hear from any wellness instructors who like the idea of working with an emphasis on stress reduction and functional fitness, rather than the body beautiful.

“In saying that, we’re not a gym. While good physical health is important, it shouldn’t come at the cost of positive mental and emotional health – that will always be our priority.”
Bab’yama, which stands for Berwick and Borders Yoga and Meditation, has a further aim to offer complimentary therapies, including bodywork modalities such as massage and reflexology and energy work such as reiki and shamanistic healing.
Isabelle said: “Our intention is to share the benefits of what we believe with others for their overall well-being.
“It’s about reaching out to the widest range of people as possible, helping them find something that works for them and networking with local organisations to support the community.”
